On sale on PS5, as Early Access

BeamNG.drive has been available on PlayStation 5 since October 19, 2026, the date BeamNG announced on September 24 and which we covered alongside its SimRacing Expo demo. What has changed is that the game can now be bought, but as Early Access: the PlayStation listing explains that it is still in active development and that the studio will keep improving and expanding it with player feedback.

On the Spanish PlayStation Store the Standard Edition costs €21.99, the same amount shown on the German listing. The official US and UK listings show US$24.99 and £17.99. All of them carry the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label with no separate price, and list 1 to 4 players, offline play, a PEGI 3 rating, English voices and Spanish text among other languages.

What the PS5 version includes

The headline launch feature is local split-screen, which arrives with version 0.40. BeamNG says it supports up to 4 players on PS5 (up to 64 on PC) and that on console the PlayStation operating system assigns each device to a player. It works in Free Roam and in seven game modes:

According to the release notes, each player picks their own vehicle, gearbox mode and clutch and throttle assists, and participants can join or leave without restarting the session. For newcomers on console, v0.40 replaces the old tutorial with “First Drive”, a guided introduction to driving, repairing the vehicle and the game’s core systems.

On the technical side, the October 19 launch press release mentions FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) on the standard PS5 and PSSR on PS5 Pro. The PlayStation listing adds DualSense vibration and trigger effect support. BeamNG has not published graphics modes, resolutions or target frame rates for console.

What is missing at launch

As BeamNG said in September, the PS5 version launches without mods and without virtual reality. The launch press release is more specific on mods: they will not be supported on PlayStation at launch, and mod authoring tools are not currently planned for the console. Some outlets equate those tools with the World Editor; the official sources we checked refer to mod authoring tools without naming the editor. The World Editor and virtual reality (Direct3D 12 via OpenXR) improvements listed in v0.40 apply to PC.

There is no online multiplayer on any platform either: what arrives is local split-screen. In May BeamNG confirmed it is working on official multiplayer but said it was still far from ready. The PlayStation listings do not mention online play.

  • Mods: not available at launch, no announced timeline.
  • Mod authoring tools: not currently planned on PlayStation.
  • Virtual reality: not available at launch.
  • Online multiplayer: not available; local split-screen only.

Supported wheels on PS5

BeamNG publishes an initial list of wheels supported with force feedback on PS5: eleven models from Fanatec, Logitech and Thrustmaster.

The studio warns that other PS5 wheels have not been tested: they may work correctly, work only partially (for example without force feedback) or not work at all. Among known issues it notes that some listed wheels cannot assign certain buttons, and it promises to improve support over time without giving dates. The list includes no other brands and does not detail which additional rims or pedals are recognised with each base.

The first hotfixes already touch wheels. v0.40.2, released on October 22, increases the force feedback strength range for Thrustmaster wheels on PS5 by 33% and fixes the T598, whose throttle and clutch pedals were swapped; anyone who had reassigned them manually can revert that change. v0.40.1 had fixed a PS5 UI crash when many images loaded at once.

  • Fanatec: ClubSport DD+ for PS and Gran Turismo DD PRO
  • Logitech: G29, G923, RS50 and G Pro for PS
  • Thrustmaster: T248 for PS, T598, T98 Ferrari 296 GTB, TGT2 and T300 RS

Early Access: what is known about the roadmap

BeamNG has not published a dated roadmap for PS5. Its official commitments are general: the September announcement speaks of aiming for feature parity across platforms where possible in the long term, the launch press release says both versions will be continuously updated, and the v0.40 blog promises broader wheel support. No source states whether or when mods, VR or other PC features will follow.

Nor has BeamNG announced how long Early Access will last or whether the price will change when it ends. The console launches directly on v0.40, the same version PC receives, so the hotfixes released so far cover both platforms, with some PS5-specific fixes.

v0.40 reached PC on the same day

On PC, version 0.40 was also released on October 19, matching the “around that date” BeamNG had indicated. Beyond split-screen, the press release says the update brings a new vehicle on PC and PS5: the Cherrier Percheron, an early-2000s European cab-over truck with S, L and XL cabs, 2 to 5 axles and a 12.8-litre turbocharged six-cylinder with 310 to 500 hp, paired with a 12-speed manual or 7-speed automatic. It comes with the new FPU European trailers.

v0.40 also adds physical occupants that add weight to the vehicle, a revised walking mode, screen-space reflections and, on PC, new anti-aliasing and upscaling options (DLSS, FSR 3, FSR 4 and XeSS) plus native Windows on Arm builds. Between October 20 and 22 BeamNG released three hotfixes (0.40.1, 0.40.2 and 0.40.3) to address the most urgent issues.
