A free update, the first of two

Polyphony Digital released Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.72, Part 1 of Spec IV, on October 15, 2026. According to the official PlayStation Blog, it went live on October 14 at 11:00 pm PDT, which was October 15 at 7:00 am BST and 8:00 am in mainland Spain. It is free for all players and requires an internet connection to download.

Spec IV was announced on September 3 as a major free update split into two instalments. Part 2 is planned for December 2026, with no specific day announced. Neither official Part 1 source details the download size or any differences between PS5 and PS4.

SUGO International Racing Course

The new circuit is SUGO International Racing Course in Miyagi Prefecture, north-west Japan. Polyphony lists a length of 3,586 m, an elevation change of 69.83 m, 13 corners and a longest straight of 704.5 m. The maximum gradient, 10%, comes at the final corner before the home straight.

The official description mentions two right-handers at the start, followed by S-bends, hairpins and multi-apex curves. The studio does not detail alternative layouts or wet-weather running, so we do not treat either as confirmed.

The six new cars and where to buy them

The update adds six cars. The PlayStation Blog states which in-game dealership sells each one; Polyphony does not give credit prices in the announcement.

  • Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston '86 — Used Cars
  • Ferrari F355 Berlinetta '94 — Used Cars
  • Honda Civic Si Group A version '87 — Legend Cars
  • Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line '23 — Brand Central
  • MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 EVO '26 — Brand Central

Vintage, Car Concierge, Experience and Car Viewer

Brand Central gains a Vintage section for cars from 2000 and earlier, with direct access to the Legend Cars and Used Cars dealerships. Car Concierge, available to players who have reached the ending, searches for a specific car based on the model, colour and condition requested; up to four orders can be placed at once depending on Collector Level.

Experience, also in Brand Central, offers challenges that reflect each brand's style and records the best results. In Part 1 it covers Xiaomi, Yangwang, Hyundai and Polestar. Car Viewer, in the Garage, shows the current car from any angle and lets you change the background, turn the front wheels and switch on the lights, with easy photography in mind.

  • New opening cinematic
  • Collector Level cap raised from 70 to 90
  • Three Café Extra Menus: No. 55 'Collection: High-Performance EVs' (level 75+), No. 56 'Collection: Tuned GT-Rs' (level 80+) and No. 57 'Collection: Le Mans Winners' (level 90)

New World Circuits events and Scapes

World Circuits adds six events, three of them at SUGO. Scapes gains two featured Curations: Angeles Crest Highway and Sportsland SUGO.

  • Sunday Cup — Autopolis International Racing Course, Short Course
  • European Sunday Cup 400 — SUGO International Racing Course
  • Vision Gran Turismo Trophy — Spa-Francorchamps
  • European Clubman Cup 600 — Dragon Trail, Seaside Reverse

DualSense Gran Turismo Limited Edition

On the same day, Sony revealed the DualSense Wireless Controller – Gran Turismo Limited Edition. Its recommended retail price, including tax, is €84.99, US$84.99 and £74.99. Sony set pre-orders to open on October 22 at 10:00 local time via PlayStation Direct where available and participating retailers, in limited quantities. The global launch starts on December 10.

It is a separate product from the update: Spec IV does not require this controller. If you drive with a wheel, check each peripheral's PS5 or PS4 compatibility in the manufacturer's documentation.

What to expect from Part 2 in December

According to the September announcement, Part 2 will bring Autumn Ring, with its original layout and a new, much larger configuration, plus more cars: Polyphony puts the number of new Spec IV cars at twelve across both parts. It also announces Family mode for children and beginners, Shuffle Race with randomly assigned cars, Online Drift Trial, the next evolution of Gran Turismo Sophy and a Power Pack difficulty level for advanced players.

Polyphony has not yet given the Part 2 release day or the December car list. We will update this information once they are published.
